Atlantic City Losing 2 Casinos, 5K Jobs In 3 Days

Black America Web

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A time few could imagine during the glory days of casino gambling has arrived in Atlantic City, where two casinos and more than 5,000 jobs will be lost this weekend.

The Showboat is closing Sunday, followed by Revel’s two-day closure Monday and Tuesday.

Trump Plaza is next, closing Sept. 16. To the thousands of workers who will be left behind, it still seems unreal.

Showboat bartender Chris Ireland says casino workers never thought this could happen.

Atlantic City began the year with 12 casinos, but before summer’s end, it will have eight.

The contraction is due to ever-increasing competition in neighboring states.

Many analysts and casino executives say Atlantic City will do better with fewer casinos. Some have already improved their financial position since the Atlantic Club closed in January.

Chris Brown Due Back In DC Court For Plea Hearing

Black America Web

WASHINGTON (AP) — Singer Chris Brown is scheduled to appear in a District of Columbia court for what would be a third attempt at a plea deal to resolve an assault case that dates to October 2013.

According to court filings, Brown was scheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court on Friday for a plea hearing but was unable due to travel issues. The hearing was rescheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney, confirmed Brown is due in court. But he declined to comment on the case.

In January and June, Brown rejected plea deals on a misdemeanor assault charge. At the time of the incident, Brown was on probation in California for a 2009 attack on his then- girlfriend singer Rihanna.

Brown’s attorney, Stuart Sears, declined to comment on the case.

Wesley Snipes Gets Served Legally At ‘The Expendables 3’ Premiere

Black America Web

Just when you think he’s in the clear from the law, up comes another legal situation for Wesley Snipes to deal with.

RadarOnline reports Snipes was served with legal papers while walking the red carpet for the premiere of his latest film, “The Expendables 3.” As he left the screening of the movie to go to the after-party, the entertainer was handed the summons, which orders him to appear for a debtor’s examination.

Snipes is being sued by public relations firm Sitrick & Company for failure to pay fees associated with work the group did when he faced felony tax evasion charges, RadarOnline noted. Snipes tasted freedom after being released from prison in April 2013 upon serving a three-year sentence for tax evasion.

Court documents reveal the actor must “furnish information to aid in enforcement of a money judgement” totaling $103,000. The amount, a court states, is what Snipes owes…
