NEW YORK (AP) — Rappers are making their voices heard in song and on the ground in Ferguson, Missouri, in the wake of Michael Brown’s shooting death, channeling hip-hop’s earlier roots when the genre worked as a voice for the oppressed and spoke out against injustice.
“It’s really important to see hip-hop’s role of being some grown-ups and doing some really stand-up, grown-up stuff,” Public Enemy’s Chuck D, one of rap’s most powerful voices, said in a recent interview. “These people have actually stood up … and that has to be saluted.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said he’s impressed with rappers such as J. Cole, who released a heartaching, tearful song called “Be Free” inspired by Brown, the unarmed 18-year-old who was shot to death by a Ferguson officer on Aug. 9.
Others in rap also have lifted their voices: Talib Kweli, like J. Cole, marched in…

It’s going to be a great weekend for Ray J now that the laundry list of charges against him have been dropped!
The “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” star pleaded no contest to trespassing charges after an incident at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel earlier this summer, the Los Angeles Times reports.
At the time, he’d refused to leave the hotel’s bar for allegedly touching a woman’s booty. Cops were called, and Ray flipped out when he was taken into custody.
He was originally slapped with misdemeanor charges of sexual battery, battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and vandalism. When he declined to fight the trespassing charges, all the other others were dropped as well.
Ray hasn’t completely gotten off easy. He’s been ordered to serve 50 hours of community service, and he must alcohol therapy and anger management classes. Authorities will be making sure that he honors those orders because Ray’s…

According to Vlad TV, Wild N Out‘s Brittany Dailey wants everyone to know that she is not Nick Cannon‘s jump off and she has no idea how the rumor got started in the first place. She reportedly took to her Twitter account to discuss it.
“Let me just address this right now.. I’ve never had an inappropriate relationship with Nick, never been in a room alone with Nick. He’s my boss and a friend, that’s it. Idk where this rumor is coming from. That’s some crazy s***.. Smh.”
We wonder if Mariah‘s fans are the ones fueling these rumors? Seems like a tough position to be in really. Some people will probably think that Brittany started the rumor herself just to get attention while others will believe that she is not telling the truth and that she is in fact messing around with Nick…

This time, the rapper struck with claims of being “the smartest celebrity you’ve ever f—ing dealt with.”
According to TMZ, West’s declaration was made during a deposition hearing in a civil suit filed by Daniel Ramos, a paparazzi photographer the entertainer is accused of assaulting in July 2013.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — State lawmakers on Thursday passed a bill that would make California the first state to define when “yes means yes” while investigating sexual assaults on college campuses.
The Senate unanimously passed SB967 as states and universities across the U.S. are under pressure to change how they handle rape allegations. The bill now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, who has not indicated his stance on the bill.
Sen. Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, said his bill would begin a paradigm shift in how California campuses prevent and investigate sexual assault. Rather than using the refrain “no means no,” the definition of consent under the bill requires “an affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity.” Earlier versions of the bill had similar language.
“With this measure, we will lead the nation in bringing standards and protocols across the board so we can create an environment…

ANGLETON, Texas (AP) — A southeast Texas man says that despite his acquittal Wednesday for the shooting death of the drunken driver who caused a crash that killed his two sons, there are no winners.
“This was a loss for everybody,” said a visibly relieved David Barajas, who cried and hugged his wife, Cindy, after the verdict was read.
Prosecutors had alleged that Barajas killed 20-year-old Jose Banda in a fit of rage after Banda plowed into Barajas and his sons while they were pushing a truck on a rural Southeast Texas road near their home because it had run out of gas. Twelve-year-old David Jr. and 11-year-old Caleb were killed.
Authorities said that after the accident, Barajas, 32, went to his home about 100 yards from the crash site near Alvin, got a gun and returned to shoot Banda.
Defense attorney Sam Cammack said Barajas didn’t kill Banda and…
